The scale of the 2014 Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in West Africa presented unprecedented challenges for the international humanitarian community, and learning from the successes and failures of the response effort is important for designing future crisis interventions. Lessons learned from the West Africa EVD response include the danger of neglecting psychosocial and cultural considerations,
and the importance of non-medical interventions aimed at community mobilisation and behaviour change. As a result there have been calls for further research on EVD response interventions that integrated psychosocial considerations from the outset.
This study explores the mechanisms underlying changes achieved by one such intervention implemeneted by Social Empowerment through Learning Liberia (SELL), a loca NGO based in Lofa County, Liberia, established  by the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary (MSHR) in 2007.
